Phuket & Singapore 2009 –Day 10 – Camera Lens Shopping & Sentosa Island!

Pictures…

We decided that we would go to the zoo today, so we made our way down to have some breakfast

via the tour rep, he made the suggestion of doing the Sentosa Island tour this afternoon as it went to 9pm & do a morning breakfast with the orang-u-tans at the zoo the next morning, leaving the afternoon free to shop before we left that night, this sounded like a plan.

We had breakfast & went outside to catch our bus to the shopping district ( David really wanted that lens ) I think we went into about 1000 camera shops & still couldn’t find any.

We had lunch & went back to the hotel to get ready for our Sentosa Island tour. The bus picked us up at 1.45 & we were taken to the Singapore Flyer, which also acts as a transit point for the tourist buses, where we all boarded a larger bus for our journey

It took about 1/2 to reach Mt Faber- 2nd largest mountain on the island, we lined up & boarded the Tiger Skyway cable cars which took us down to the island. Once there our group caught the red line bus to the Underwater World (aquarium). We touched stingrays & starfish before going down stairs to the submerged glass underwater tunnel ( large shark, fish & dugong viewing area – much like Sydney) stopping at the weedy sea dragon, sea horse, jellyfish etc displays.

Next stop was Dolphin lagoon – home to some Indo-Pacific Hump-Backed Dolphins – also known as pink dolphins. They had a show- jumping & swimming with their trainers, before you could have your photo taken with then- yes Brendan & I did.

Then it was off to the Merlion tower – 12 stories high- you walk in & first watch a video on how Singapore came about having the Merlion as its national icon, & were given a special coin to put in the Merlions mouth on the way out of the tower. We then took the elevator up & walked up a few steps to the top- you could see a few of Indonesia’s islands which were close by, then down a few steps to the mouth for a few photos, Back down & we came to a room with Merlions heads, where you picked one & placed your coin in the mouth – a card came out & you were to present this  in the shop – they would then give you a special gift. David & Brendan each received a fan while I got a pewter coaster set.

We walked thru some of the park area down to the beach where we viewed the "Songs of the Sea " show. On the waters edge was a village, there were 7 singers who told the story of how one man’s voice could free the princess who was asleep in the village under a spell. The Pyro-techics display  was the high light. We caught the bus back to the hotel & as we didn’t have anything to eat while we we out we had a quick meal of Satay chicken & ice creams before we went to bed.
