Bali Trip – 14th April 2010 – Day 3
We took a leisurely swim in pool 1 (at pool 2 all the seats already taken) until mid morning, then a quick walk up the street to look at the shops & to see what else we could find.
Booked our River rafting tour with Yudah, from MBA Tours (Excellent service, well recommended) .
We found Bali Shop – set prices – no bargaining, we liked this and bought up a few shirts & shorts for David &Brendan.
A quick lunch at Poser’s restaurant – located on the corners of the street our hotel is on. Brendan had a hotdog – wasn’t quite the same as we are used to but he ate it anyway & said it was good, David & I shared a plate of chips.
1pm we were picked up for our – Monkey Temple & Tanah Lot tour by Tours East (booked at home using points from The Greater).
Our first stop was at a batik shop where we saw how all the batik was applied by the local village ladies & some weaving; you could then go into the shop & purchase goods if they took your fancy.
The next stop was at an art gallery, we saw a gorgeous painting that both David & I liked and would have loved to purchase, but the $A2000 price tag was a bit steep – they came down to $900.00, but unfortunately still didn’t get a sale from us.
We had a quick stop at a guest house which over looked a small rice field for a drink & sample of some traditional deserts – like small donut balls with tapioca inside.. The grounds were really nice with large pond area with a wooden walkway & lots of statues scattered around the grassy areas.
We then stopped at Menagwi, a temple complex which is inhabited by around 700 monkeys & fruit bats. When you drive in to the complex some of the monkeys are on the road. You get assigned a guide to take you around the building & are told do not touch the monkeys..there are lots of monkeys on the ground all around running ,screaming & playing with each other. Brendan sat down on the ground & the monkeys came over to him, one played with the string on his board shorts & we took a few photos. A bit further on we decided to get an apple out from the backpack to break up & feed to them, but once we started to get it out the big head male came across & the lady guide gave it all to him really quickly, seemed to think he was a bit dangerous & not to mess with him. We then came to the trees which the bats were sleeping on, these fruit bats can have up to 1m wing span & were quite big. We finished looking at the temples grounds & had to stop at our guides shop on the way back where we were guilted into buying T-shits (of course they are dearer than in Legian).
The next stop was Tanah lot temple & Temple by the ocean, is a temple built on an archway with a blow hole going underneath & was very picturesque. Tanah Lot Temple- a little bit further around the headland is a very popular area to take sunrise & sunset photo’s, unfortunately for us it was cloudy, so we took a few photo’s & made our way back to the hotel.
We decided to have tea at the hotel, we sat up in the “special area” seating under a raised pergolas area. David had the Madras Curry, Brendan Satay Chicken & I had “Tazmania”- a pancake filled with chicken.
