Phuket & Singapore 2009 –Day 8 – Phi Phi Islands

Pictures…

An earlier start than anticipated due to a phone call from mum (9 am at home which meant it was 6 am here & was still dark), checking up on how we were. Up showered, dressed, breakfast & ready to be picked up at 7.30 – yes, we were on time today!.

Another cute mini bus picked us up, this time it had a picture of the islands on the panel work.

A long & painful 45 min trip – due to a group of 4 Aussies the 2 women talking to each other at the top of their voices – we now know that they watch National Geographic last night & what they were planning – David felt sorry for their husbands !

Phuket & Singapore 2009 –Day 7 – Resort & Beach

We slept in again today, had breakfast then watched Brendan swim around for a bit – we bought goggles for him yesterday, so hopefully his eyes will start to clear up. We had chips & soft drink on the balcony, it got too sticky for me so I had a quick dip in the spa. We then moved down to lie on the deck chairs & ordered some drinks- Tequila Sunrise this time ( yes it’s happy hour again between 12 &2 ) we were in & out of the pool cooling off.

Phuket & Singapore 2009 – Day 6 – Phuket FantaSea

Pictures…

Our first free day..we had a nice leisurely breakfast at 9..a huge buffet with cereal, yoghurt, soups ..a bakery all fresh breads, croissants, cakes & a chef who makes fresh donuts / waffles, another chef who makes eggs – fried poached omelette etc, all cooked foods – bacon, sausages, pancakes, potatoes, French toast, oriental foods , juices & a huge variety of fruit. We caught the courtesy bus down town to the Jung Ceylon centre ( big dept shops ) & waited 5 min till it opened at 11am, had a look around, I bought a small stingray leather purse & a shirt for Brendan. David wanted to buy a tent but settled for a 10lt waterproof bag. We found a ATM & got some more money 5000b & they charged us 150b for the privilege. We aren’t as rich here as we were in Cambodia..We then hit the streets looking for bargains, I must say that shopping here isn’t that great & apart from a few shirts which are a light quality & shorts which feel plasticy the prices are similar to home. We had been walking around for a few hours & Brendan needed to go to the toilet..do you think we could find one.we ended up at..wait for it..McDonalds’, yes they had a toilet so while we were there  had a quick burger – much to David’s disgust, I was surprised at how many people actually eat there.

Phuket & Singapore 2009 – Day 5 – Siam Safari

Pictures…

Our morning tour was picking us up at 8am so we were up early – had a sore back due to the extremely hard beds ! We loaded our backpacks, put on the sunscreen & doused ourselves in “Aerogard” ready for our adventure, we were picked up in a safari truck – looked like an ex army lorry. We travelled for about 45min up into the green lush tropical hills. hair going every where – so much for brushing.it would be nice to actually have a photo where your hair isn’t limp or all messy or have sweat all over your face!.

We woke to another beautiful day, had breakfast & got ready for our tour pick up at 9am. Of course they were 10mins early & we were not ready.we quickly grabbed our stuff & headed out to the waiting mini bus.We made 2 more stops at various hotels to pick up our fellow passengers, then an hour bus ride to the pier at Leam Mapraw ( which is on the top east side of the island ), from there we jumped into a funky looking bus/ large tuk tuk which drove us to the end of the pier for us to then board our boats – English speaking on 1 & German on the other. We made the 1 hours boat ride out to Phang Nga Bay with good spirits & were introduced to the captain “Uusa” who explained the rules & how to get into the kayaks – (which were rubber), itinerary & about the tides. The first stop was at Koh Phanak ( this area has been used in various films) where we got into kayaks – our paddler’s name was Kibblie, and went into the bat cave.

We woke to David’s phone alarm, it had been set for 8am, I rolled over to look out side.hmmm it’s still dark, yes David set it to 8am Aussie time it was only 5am here.We reset the alarm & went back to sleep. We got up again & readied for breakfast, we had to see reception for our breakfast vouchers & while there we paid for a 1 hour internet access (100b), as we were running late we met up with our tour rep before breakfast, we arranged four tours for various days said goodbye & went to eat as Brendan was starving. Breakfast was a buffet & had a large selection of both western & oriental foods. Brendan had a lot of attention as his eyes were red again from being in the chlorine..we will have to go to one of the many pharmacies here. While we were eating it poured, torrential rain for a good hour.

What is that noise? No not David or Brendan snoring, it is the wake up call (another 6am start ),only feels like I just closed my eyes. So I kick David out of Bed for a shower & try to phone mum as we got her message just before we went to bed & was way too late to phone back, no luck working that blasted thing, have to now wait for David, she was just checking in as they saw a lot of the demonstrations in Bangkok on the TV but all ok. Eventually woke Brendan & went down for a quick breakfast as we were being picked up at 7am. We saw a little of Singapore on the way, looks nice so far. We went & checked in… no delays, yahoo the day is going well.

Phuket & Singapore 2009 – Day 1 – We’re leaving Home

At 6am we woke to a miserable day in Wollongong, rainy & overcast..but who cares we are about to leave for hot, sunny Phuket.

Up & showered we make sure all the animals are feed & the house locked up & wait for Uncle Fulv & Aunty  Sue  to pick us up. We get to Sydney airport in no time & say goodbye.

Gees the line up for check in is really long.no wonder you have to get there 2 hours before hand.but no worries, we’re on holidays..

1 & 1/2 hours later we are still in line ( not happy Jan !) we are now advised that our plane has been delayed 2 hours.and guess what.. yes we have now missed our connecting flight & have to stay in Singapore over night as  that was the last flight out for the day.
